All along, I felt that my MT prop was not exactly a speed demon. I have a neighbor with a box stock 8A, and even with all my speed mods, lighter weight, and souped up engine, I was less than 5 kts faster than he. The neighbor has a stock O-360 A1A, and two blade Hartzell with Lightspeed E,I, being the only mod.
When I bought the MT from Van's, they mumbled something about the MT being 2 or 3 kts slower, but I was hot on having a 3-blade for the smoothness factor. It is also a very sexy looking prop. After I flew the airplane, even though it is very smooth for a 4-banger, it is still a 4-banger, and also the 4 into 1 megaphone exhaust is extremely loud. I decided I probably wouldn't notice much difference with a 2-blade prop.
I flew the MT for about 140 hours, with no problems. I sold the prop to a lister in Florida. I wish I had waited a little longer before I did, since I could have used it to retrieve the airplane after the AC failure.
