Engine Inspection

Remove upper cowling and clean

Remove lower cowling and clean

Inspect upper and lower cowling for damage, cracks, chafing, etc.

Wash engine

Drain oil

Remove, inspect, clean, and reinstall oil screen (Safety wire screen)

Inspect filler cap, dipstick, and oil drain valve for general condition

Refill with oil

Start engine, run at 1700 RPM for 2 minutes

Check oil cooler for security, leaks, and obstructed air passages

Service air induction filter

Inspect airbox for internal cleanliness, cracks, and security

Inspect air valve and doors for operation and sealing

Inspect carb heat control for full travel, smooth operation, security

Inspect cold and hot air flex hoses for condition, chafing, security

Inspect engine baffles for condition and security

Inspect cylinders, rocker boxes, and push rod housings for condition and security

Inspect crankcase, oil pan, acc section for condition and security

Check front crankshaft seal for leakage

Check all lines and hoses for condition, leaks, chafing, security

Inspect intake system for condition, leaks, loose clamps, security

Inspect exhaust system  

Remove all shrouds

Inspect all areas for exhaust leaks, condition, security

Check muffler for leaks

Reinstall all shrouds

Check ignition harness for condition, security, chafing

Remove top spark plugs

Perform compression test

Remove lower spark plugs

Examine spark plugs for condition, gap, and evidence of proper operation

Reinstall spark plugs and ignition harness wires

Inspect magnetos

Check all electrical wiring for condition, chafing, security

Inspect vacuum pump for leaks, security

Inspect throttle cable for condition, security, proper rigging

Inspect engine shock mounts for condition, security

Inspect engine mounts for condition, burning

Inspect ground straps for condition, security

Inspect propeller governor for condition, security, leaks

Inspect propeller governor control for condition, security, proper rigging

Inspect primer lines for condition, security, chafing, tightness

Check cabin heater valve and door for condition, proper operation

Check cabin heat controls for condition, security, proper rigging

Inspect starter for condition, security, leaks, electrical connections

Inspect generator for condition, security, electrical connections

Inspect generator drive belt for condition

Check voltage regulator for condition, security, electrical connections

Inspect carburetor for condition, security, fuel leaks, proper safetying

Remove finger strainer in bowl, flush bowl, reinstall

Inspect fuel strainer for cleanliness, security, leaks, safetying

Check cowl flap cables and bellcranks for condition, security, proper rigging

Check forward firewall for condition

Reinstall cowling

Reconnect cowl flaps, check for proper rigging

Propeller Inspection

Inspect blades for condition, security, looseness

Inspect propeller for oil leaks

 

Mark spinner, backing plate with alignment mark

Remove spinner

Check bolts for proper safetying

Inspect spinner, backing plate for condition

Reinstall spinner realigning the alignment marks

Fuel System Inspection

Inspect fuel sump drains for water and sediment, leads, security, safetying

Check underside of wings for evidence of fuel leaks

Check fuel tanks per AD 84-10-01 R1

 

Check fuel tank filler cap placards for legibility

Check fuel caps for leakage, security

Check fuel vents for obstructions, leaks, security, and proper position

Check fuel valve placard for legibility and correct indexing

Inspect all fuel lines for security, chafing, leaks, condition

Check fuel quantity gages for security, legibility, condition, leakage

Inspect engine primer for proper operation, leaks, security

Landing Gear Inspection

Check brakes for proper operation, sponginess, failure to hold pressure, fluid level

Inspect master cylinders, brake lines, and hoses for condition, security, leaks, chafing

Inspect brake linings for condition, wear, security

Inspect brake discs for scoring, warping, excessive wear

Inspect wheel and brake assembly for condition, leaks, loose bolts, freedom of movement

Check axles for condition, security, cleanliness

Check axle nuts for proper adjustment and safetying

Inspect main landing gear spring struts for condition, security

Check tires for proper inflation, tread, cleanliness, condition, abnormal wear

Check tailwheel assembly for proper operation, lubrication, condition, security

Check tailwheel tire for proper inflation, tread, cleanliness, condition, abnormal wear

Check cables and chains for security, condition, fraying, misalignment

Check turnbuckles for safetying, bellcranks for condition

Inspect control wheels for condition, alignment, binding, security, bent tube

Check instruments for condition, security, proper operation, legibility

Check gyro filters for replacement

Check all instrument wiring and plumbing for condition, security, chafing, loose terminals, interference with control column travel

Inspect instrument panel for condition, security, broken shockmounts, legibility

Check defrosting, heating, and ventilating systems for proper operation, condition, security

Check air system controls for proper rigging, security, binding

Check interior upholstery for condition, security

Check area beneath floor for cleanliness, chafing and security of lines, hoses, and electrical wires. Inspect control cable for condition. Lube all pulleys.

Check stall warning horn for proper operation and security

Check instrument and cabin lights for proper functioning, security

Check rudders for correct direction of movement when operated from cabin

Paperwork

Check that all aircraft and engine documents are in accordance with current FAR’s

Check all AD’s for compliance

Verify that Airworthiness Certificate, Radio Station License, Registration, Owner’s Manual, and Weight and Balance are on board aircraft
